Advent Day 6 – Homemade

I was quite surprised when I came on-line today and realized Day 6 hadn’t been posted!  I didn’t even remember writing Day 6 – because I hadn’t!  Shame on me.  Still, I remember what I planned on writing about:  Homemade Christmas.

When I was younger, of course, I didn’t have money to buy Christmas presents with so, as a child, I made presents and cards like a lot of kids back then.  As I grew older and had money to spend, there was always a special person I made something for.  Sometimes it was a baked something, like for my Uncle Roy one year I made a scratch lemon meringue pie and Uncle Riley received an apple stack cake.  This one was special because it was the first stack cake I had ever made and Mommy taught me, shoulder-to-shoulder, how to make it.

Every year there are homemade presents whether edible or knitted for my closest friends, and, of course, I try to always  give The Husband something special.

Homemade presents, to me, show just how much you care about a person because you are putting time and effort into doing something for them, which is something you can’t buy in a store.  Yes, the handmade gift isn’t the only thing these people receive from me, but they seem to be the gifts people really look forward to from me.  And, I look forward to planning and making them.
